HOW TO MEASURE
FOR A GARAGE DOOR
STEP 1
Measure the width of the door opening at the widest point. This is the
distance between the right and left sides of the finished opening. The
inside of the garage door should be framed with 2 in. x 6 in. wood jambs.
STEP 2
Measure the height of the door opening at the highest point. This is the
distance between the floor and the top of the finished opening.
STEP 3
Measure the width of the areas beside the openings. 3-3/4 in. is required
on each side for installation of the vertical track.
STEP 4
Measure the area between the top of the door opening to the ceiling.
Carriage House doors require 15 in. of headroom and all other doors
require 12 in. of headroom for the door installation. An additional 3 in. is
required for an opener.
Installations with less than measurements shown above will require special hardware.
STEP 5
Measure the distance from the opening to the rear of the garage.
(The door height plus an additional 18 in. is required for the door installation or an additional
4 ft. 2 in. plus door height if installing an automatic opener.)

Measurements are used for pricing only. A Risoli Door installer
will re-measure to assure proper fit.
